  32. This  is  the  LIMITED VERSION of CanonStudio.  You can use it for
  33. printing  pictures.   Though,  many  functions  have been disabled
  34. forcing  you to register and get the latest full featured version.
  35. This  program  is included as free offer to all Canon users and is
  36. not  part of the main Canon drivers.  Canon is not responsibel for
  37. any support, update or warranty regarding CanonStudio.

  39. In  case  you use CanonStudio register the program or this product
  40. will  most likely not be supported in the future (programs do cost
  41. more  than  time  to  develop).   Also,  your  shareware fee is my
  42. motivation  for  enhancements.   If you like, you may also buy the
  43. commercial  "Studio"  printer  software  from  your  Amiga  dealer
  44. instead of registering CanonStudio.  Studio does additionaly offer
  45. you  a nice printed manual, driver support and drivers for various
  46. non-Canon printers.

  87. PLEASE,  DO MAKE SURE THE AMOUNT IS RIGHT.  In the past there were
  88. a  huge  amount of users not paying the proper amount when sending
  89. checks.  Please note CanonStudio is non-profit and as I'm planning
  90. to ship printed CanonStudio manuals for registered users, there is
  91. no   room   left   for   cuts   after   paying   the  high  german

  98. I  know,  reading the "Readme" file of the drivers is a real pain.
  99. But there is a real printed manual available with pictures and all
  100. that  nice  stuff.   The manual is part of the commercial "Studio"
  101. printer software described above (Studio is available from JAM and
  102. other distributors/dealers).

  105.                     INSTALLING CANONDISK
  106.                     --------------------
  107.  
  108. CanonDisk   is   divided   into  two  independent  parts.   During
  109. installation  a  user  can  choose just the required part, or both
  110. parts.
  111.  
  112.                     CanonStudio Program
  113.  
  114. The  purpose  of  the  CanonStudio  program  is to print pictures.
  115. Pictures  are printed directly from disk without the need for much
  116. memory.  For instance you can print a huge 10 MBytes picture on an
  117. Amiga that is equipped with only 1 MBytes of memory.
  118.  
  119. If  you  have  a colour printer you can print with 24 bitplanes of
  120. colour  accuracy (16.7 million colours).  If you have a monochrome
  121. printer  you can print with 8 bitplanes of greyscale accuracy (256
  122. greys).    If   you   were   not   using   CanonStudio's  printing
  123. capabilities,  the  Amiga's  own  colour  printing  capacity is 12
  124. bitplanes   for   colour  (4096  colours),  and  4  bitplanes  for
  125. greyscales (16 greys).  Printing pictures through CanonStudio does
  126. therefore give a user greater precision.

  128. The  CanonStudio  picture-printing  program works with every Amiga
  129. printer  driver  but  this  version  is  limited to just the Canon
  130. Workbench  drivers.   If  you  require a Version that supports all
  131. drivers purchase the ``Studio Printer Software'' package from your
  132. dealer.

  134.                        Canon Driver
  135.  
  136. The  Canon  drivers  are  supplements  to  the  Commodore supplied
  137. printer  drivers.   They  are 100 percent Amiga compatible printer
  138. drivers,  even  though  they  offer  many  more functions than the
  139. standard printer drivers.  The additional functions of the drivers
  140. are controlled by the preferences program included with CanonDisk.

  142. The programs and drivers are described in detail later.  Start the
  143. installation  by  double-clicking  with  the  mouse  button on the
  144. Install icon, found in the main drawer of the CanonDisk.

  149. Follow the instructions below to install the Canon software:
  150.  
  151.  
  152. * Configure and connect your printer as described in the printer's
  153. user manual and the Amiga system manual.
  154.  
  155. * Set your printers dip switches as described in the table below:
  156.

  165.     BJC 70       Set the printer to Epson Emulation
  166.     BJC 600      all except ->           1, 4, 12
  167.     BJC 600e     all except ->            1, 11
  168.     BJC 4000     all except ->         1, 4, 11, 12

  170. Please note these settings reflect those of DIN A4 paper size
  171. users. US Letter paper users require a slightly different setting.
  172.  
  173. * Boot your Amiga with your usual system or Workbench disk.
  174.  
  175. *  If  you don't own a hard drive, prepare an empty floppy disk by
  176. using the system Format command.
  177.  
  178. *  We  anticipate  that  most Canon users will want to install the
  179. program  on to a hard drive.  If you do not have a hard drive then
  180. you  must  install  some  parts  (documentation  and CanonPref) of
  181. CanonDisk  onto  an  empty floppy, using the supplied installation
  182. program.   You  cannot  run  the  Canon software directly from its
  183. installation disk because it is stored in a compressed format.
  184.  
  185. *  If  your  system  has  only  a single floppy drive (and no hard
  186. drive), the installation program will cause a large number of disk
  187. swaps while it gets things prepared for the main installation.
  188.  
  189. * Double click on the Install icon found in the main drawer of the
  190. CanonDisk.   The  installation  process  is automatic and uses the
  191. Commodore  standard  Installer  program.  The installation process
  192. has  been  designed to provide on-line instructions as you install
  193. the  product.   Any  questions  that  you  might  have  about  the
  194. installation  process  should  be  answered  by  the  on-line help
  195. contained in the installation program.

  197. The  install program will copy the driver to your system disk.  In
  198. order  to do so, you need 45 KByte empty disk space on your system
  199. disk.  Additional programs can be saved to an empty floppy disk or
  200. hard disk and may not be saved to the system disk.
  201.    
  202. !  Most likely floppy users must make space on their system disk in
  203.    order to install the driver. This can be done by deleting unneeded
  204.    programs using the Workbenchs 3.0 "Delete..." menu item.
  205.    The installation program will do the job for you if you like.
  206.    You will be asked before each file is deleted.

  220. * Canon BJC800 users should note, that the Canon BJC800 printer is
  221. a  single  page  printer.  The printer does not support continuous
  222. form paper.  Because of this the page length must be defined!  The
  223. driver  can do this automaticly for you, in case you set the paper
  224. length  in  Workbench  preferences  to 250 lines.  Don't forget to
  225. turn  on  "Enable  Form"  in  the CanonBJECPref program!  Select a
  226. paper type of "Wide Tractor" for printing on DIN A3 sized paper.

  228. *  Select  a  paper type of Wide Tractor for printing on DIN A3 A3
  229. sized paper on BJ 230 or BJ330 printers.
  230.  
  231. *  Please note that each Canon driver uses it's own setting files.
  232. You  may  install  several  Canon  drivers  as  long  as  they are
  233. different.

  235. *  The  installation  program also installs a README file with the
  236. driver and CanonStudio covering the software in detail.
  237.  
  238. *  In  case of problems with the software use the "Report" program
  239. described by the installed README file!
  240.  
  241.  
  242. After  successfully running the Install program, try printing from
  243. the  application with which you normally print.  In most cases you
  244. should  straight  away  notice  major  improvements  in  speed and
  245. quality, but you can do much better once you have adjusted all the
  246. settings   of   the   driver   to  match  your  environment.   The
  247. installation  program  is unable to adjust all the driver settings
  248. for   your  printer  because  every  printer,  paper  and  ink  is
  249. different.   It  is your task now to use your experience with your
  250. software  and  printer  to further adjust the settings made by the
  251. Install  program.   This  will  result  in further improvements in
  252. output quality.

  254. Please  share  your printing experiences with other Canon users by
  255. sending  your  settings  to  Wolf  Faust.   This will allow future
  256. enhancements  of  CanonDisk.   You  can easily print your settings
  257. using  the  Report program mentioned in the error chapter.  Please
  258. don't  forget to mention the name of your printer, and the type of
  259. paper you are using.
